Getting the nursery ready can be a wonderful opportunity to make the time go more quickly, as you await the birth of your baby. The focal point of the nursery is always the crib, and parents can immediately establish the theme for baby’s room with their choice of quality crib bedding. Researching and finding bedding themes can be a fun and creative process.
There are many different options when you are shopping for baby girl or boy crib sets. Of course safety is the primary concern, but closely following that is the need for your baby to feel cozy and snug. In order to reduce the risk of SIDS, many doctors recommend that no loose items be present in the crib. Suffocation is possible if your baby twists and turns into a position where his or her breathing is impeded.
Even newborns are capable of moving themselves around their crib, though they have minimal control. Babies often get themselves into situation where they need assistance, such as getting trapped under a blanket or stuck in a corner. To prevent loose items from impeding the child’s breathing, keep them out of the crib.
Crib bumpers may become loose and cover the baby’s face resulting in suffocation. Older cribs had widely-spaced slats, so a bumper was required to keep the baby’s head from slipping through the side of the crib but new cribs have narrowly spaced slats so this is no longer a concern. Another option besides a loose comforter for baby is a wearable blanket, also called a sleep sack. Sleep sacks are popular options to prevent suffocation in babies, they are worn like clothing and have the functionality of a warm blanket. Finally, the fitted sheets should fit the mattress snugly.
Choose baby bedding that is soft and washable, and buy extra baby bedding. Babies often are messy and will need an extra set of bedding or two, for those times the washing machine is running.
